About 14,000 firefighters are out of reach to put out the 560 fires burning in the U.S. state of California. So far more than 4,000 square kilometers have been burned, and six people have died. One of the areas most threatened by the flames is the San Francisco Bay Area.

The fires are mostly caused by unusual electrical storms in extremely dry forests due to the high temperatures this summer. In just 72 hours, 12,000 lightning strikes have been recorded .
