Lloyd Austin was born on 8th August 1953 in Mobile, Alabama, United States. She grew up in Thomasville, Georgia. Lloyd graduated from the United States Military Academy with a degree in Science. He later studied at the University of Auburn and graduated with a Master of Arts degree focusing on mentor education.

In 1989, he graduated with a Master’s degree in business administration from Webster University. Lloyd later received Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses at Army War College and Army Command and General Staff College.
