Game Gear Micro: Sega announces a miniature version of its laptop

Technology News

A year after launching the best reissue of a classic console with its Mega Drive Mini , Sega has once again announced a device for this nostalgia market: Game Gear Micro . The laptop will return to stores – in Japan at least – on October 6 to celebrate Sega’s 60th anniversary and its own 30th birthday.

Game Gear had the difficult task of competing with the very successful Game Boy. Although it offered a dignified fight, Nintendo ended up taking control of a portable market that only mobile phones took away decades later and that, in a way, it has claimed again with the Switch.

The company will put on sale four different models and will not only change the color: each of them will have available four games grouped by theme. To enjoy the entire catalog, in principle, you will have to buy all the versions.

Each of the consoles will cost 4,980 euros (about 41 euros , at the change). The black model will feature Out Run, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Royal Stone and Sonic the Hedgehog; the yellow one, with Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux, Shining Force, Shining Force II and Shining Force: Final Conflict; the red one will have Columns, The GG Shinobi, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible and Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special and the blue one will have Baku Baku Animal: Sekai Shiikugakari Senshuken, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic & Tails and Sylvan Tale.

The console will be similar in size to the Game Boy Micro, the reduced version of the Game Boy Advance: 8 centimeters wide, 4.3 high and 2 centimeters thick . The screen will be one inch. At the moment it is not known when it will leave Japan or what its price will be outside the country.
